The Los Angeles Poverty Department will leave Saturday for Cochabamba, Bolivia, to prepare twelve Spanish-language performances of Agents & Assets. This, its South American premiere, is the culmination of a six and a half week residency project that unites Bolivian and American victims of the so-called War on Drugs in a combined cast.

Borrowed directly from the official hearing transcript of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence investigating allegations of CIA/Nicaraguan involvement in crack cocaine trafficking into Los Angeles, the text of Agents & Assets explores a prescient topic, as the Obama administration has recently shifted the rhetoric surrounding American drug policy, while still other politicians labeled the previous effort a “failure.”
Performances will take place from August 6 – 23 in Cochabamba, Potosi, Oruro, La Paz, El Alto, Sucre and Santa Cruz. Each will be followed by public community discussion.
