Opening tomorrow – Friday, March 6, 2009 – Resisting Subversion of Subversive Resistance is a four-artist effort taking place between the Degraves St. underpass and Flinders St. Station in Melbourne, Australia:
Romantic illusions of freedom fighters aside, serious business meets tongue-in-cheek as survivalism and critical masses meet conscious consumption, sign language and political awareness in this diverse and eye opening exhibition.
Resisting is part of Platform Artists Group‘s March Shows, a monthly event held by the artist-run initiative to showcase underground artists. This month’s show booked some of the most infamous Melbourne street artists for the Resisting installation, including Tom Civil, and Marc De Jong, collaborating with the highly political Paul J. Kalemba, and Van Thanh Rudd.
However, it seems that Platform has run into a snag concerning Rudd’s submissions, as founder Din Heagney reports:
Please note: serious and threatening complaints directed at Platform and Van Thanh Rudd from corporate and lobby groups have led to an official panel inquiry by the City of Melbourne. We are currently seeking legal advice on the legitimacy of the work (!!!) but Van’s work will be shown at the Opening where we will discuss the implications of such fine political activist artwork. Please join us for our latest controversy this Friday night 6-8pm.
