Bill Talen is the preacher at the Church of Stop Shopping. His performance art persona, Reverend Billy, leads congregants and choir members in anti-corporate songs and prayers for an end to consumerism. The Church is a 501(c)(3) based in New York City, almost entirely volunteer run, that has arrived in the national limelight, with guerrilla performances like the one below in Victoria’s Secret in SoHo.
