The Culture Project is a NYC-based theater serving up political conversation from the stage. Incorporated in 1996, they’ve received international attention for many of their productions, and have boasted the likes of
Meryl Streep, Danny Glover, Mary J. Blige, Robin Williams, Marisa Tomei, Bob Balaban, Rinde Eckhert, Montel Williams, Frank McCourt, Staceyann Chin, Lynn Redgrave, Sarah Silverman, and other artists who share a passion for theater and public justice.
They’ve grown considerably in the past decade, and now serve approximately 150,000 patrons annually.
The Culture Project believes theatre is “an effective agent of social change and is dedicated to fostering the creative growth of artists.” They are now showing Till the Break of Dawn, a ten character one-man-show in collaboration with Hip-Hop Theater Festival. It’s about a group of activists challenging (and ultimately strengthening) their values and commitments to social justice and eachother during a visit to Cuba.
